Brass Metal and Mesh for Design and Architecture
Following our bronze blog post a couple of months ago, we’re now turning our attention to another striking yellow metal, brass.
Known for its warm golden tones, it’s been a popular choice in architecture and design for many years. Its natural sheen brings an opulent, luxurious feel to spaces, but brass isn’t just about its appearance. It possesses anti-microbial properties, meaning it kills bacteria upon contact, making it a sensible choice for elements such as handrails, taps and door handles.
In addition to natural brass, it can also be achieved through a range of specialist finishes such as powder coating, anodising and plating.

The Brass Materials
Brass is available in a variety of materials, offering various textures and shades of brass to implement into projects for multiple applications.
We get asked almost every day about woven mesh. It’s luxurious and intricate and adds elegance to design applications, not to mention the beautiful shades of brass available. If a client desires a heritage-inspired look, brass can be woven with stainless steel for a timeless finish.
Profiled metal is another great choice, as it adds depth to applications and looks even more impressive when finished in brass. Alternatively, trending water ripple sheets are impressive in this yellow metal, they are a popular choice for ceilings as they catch the light, drawing people’s attention upwards and creating a dramatic feature.
The Finishes
As discussed, incorporating brass in your designs doesn’t have to mean using the natural material itself. You can achieve the colour through finishing techniques.
Plating is just one of the options; when expanded mesh is plated in brass, it takes on a bright, golden colour. This stunning finish is ideal for ceilings, room dividers, or striking façades.
When anodising brass, there are three shades available, champagne, mid-gold and bright yellow-gold. These finishes offer character and depth to aluminium, particularly when working on projects that want to respect their historical past.
When seeking a natural appearance, powder coating can enhance the natural shine of metal or create a softer, understated finish. Powder coating can be applied to woven and expanded meshes and profiled and perforated metal sheets.
