The Metworks Building – Access Creative College

The Metworks building in London was first constructed in 2006 and was recently renovated from an old accommodation space into a cutting-edge creative college.

The old, outdated building, which was once used across three floors, is now home to one of the largest creative colleges for young adults in the UK. The college, which is spread across eight campuses throughout the UK, allows students to explore their creative side and offers courses in eSports, games, media, music, and computing. The shift from its previous use to a college signifies a remarkable evolution.

Sheila Bird Studio instructed Contact One on the design and specification of The Metworks Building. We collaborated with Contact One to bring diverse expertise and innovative ideas to create the desired atmosphere within the building. This collective effort contributed to the successful revitalisation of the space, ensuring it meets the demands of a dynamic and creative educational setting.

Amongst so much creativity for this renovation, we were privileged to supply a range of metal solutions throughout this project.

Working closely with Contact One, we were asked to provide a metal solution for the internal walls, meeting areas and working areas. Our AP200 mesh partition system featuring our Zircon RB35 expanded mesh, powder coated in blue was specified along with our AW400 wall system utilising our R10 T15 perforated sheet, which featured across all three floors. This was alongside, our wellTEC SQ 12/12 was used for the internal cladding which was supplied in a raw aluminium and powder coated in a red finish.

Our AW400 wall system was specified in the corridors using R10 T15 perforated sheet in a natural aluminium finish as well as our Banker Wire L-62 woven mesh panels which were slotted into the frames and powder coated in RAL 3020 traffic red to give a bold, bright and eye-catching aesthetic.
