58 Mosley Street – Aviary Manchester

58 Mosley Street – Aviary Manchester

The aim of this transformation was to create a sustainable, contemporary workspace that honoured the Grade II-listed status of the building.

JM Architects approached us to work on this spectacular project and bring this wellbeing-focused workspace to life. One of the biggest challenges of this project was to introduce modern design elements without disturbing the character and listed status of the building.

This project showcases the versatility of products that Amron offers and how they can be customised with colours, finishes and bespoke sizing to suit the requirements of clients.

58 Mosley Street is an award-winning sustainable building and it received numerous accreditations, including gaining 5* stars in NABERS and being rated Excellent in BREEAM.

The Vision

Whilst keeping in line with the building’s heritage and character, the client wanted to create a modern workspace that promotes positive health and wellbeing whilst prioritising the environment.

58 Mosley Street was designed to include a welcoming, biophilic themed reception area that incorporated a coffee bar and concierge service to ensure the needs of tenants are met. Along with top-of-the-range health facilities such as a cycle hub, gym and yoga studio, offering the best of a work-life balance.

Inspired by the concept of an “aviary”, the interior was to feel layered and open with airy spaces. This led to choosing to include woven mesh and metal chains to emphasise airiness, movement, and transparency.

Technical Challenges

Delivering these elements within a listed building came with a range of challenges. One of the biggest obstacles was ensuring that installations were non-invasive and reversible, due to the listed status of the building.

Additionally, there were constraints on site, as the building had narrow access routes, so flexible installation processes were required to work around the existing structural irregularities.

Striking a balance between safety and durability for the balustrades was a task that required design modification to ensure that the staircase material was resilient and aesthetic to cope with being a high-traffic area. These challenges were a collaboration between the client, suppliers and teams that were successfully overcome to deliver this impressive project.

Adding Bespoke Metal and Mesh

Working alongside JM Architects, DCP Ltd and Delta Balustrades, Amron supplied a number of functional, eye-catching design elements that were customised to complement the client’s vision.

Our Kriskadecor ceiling drapery was selected for the lobby area. The anodised metal chains were chosen in green and sand tones to create a striking centrepiece that added movement and light diffusion whilst leaning into the biophilic theme.

The building’s gym and bathroom areas feature our perforated R30 T40 wall panels in black and clear powder-coated finishes, introducing texture to the walls whilst being durable and suitable for congested areas.

Amron’s AP200 partition system features in the business lounge to create work areas that offer privacy and a quieter space for calls and those needing to concentrate. For these panels, we used our LPZ-71 woven mesh with a black powder-coated finish of RAL 9005.

The LPZ-71 woven mesh was also chosen for the balustrades, as it is strong and sturdy and complies with health and safety requirements whilst remaining aesthetic.
